White Buffalo Stands was the name given to him by his great grandfather, Old Bull. His English name is Burton Fisher, Jr. and he is enrolled with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe from Lame Deer, Montana. In his village he was raised by his grandparents, who taught him the importance of being in touch with nature and spirit and leading a spiritual, prayerful life. David spent a good deal of his life in the outdoors fishing, hunting and working as a lineman and heavy equipment operator. He’s a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, often building power lines over rough terrain. After high school he went into the Marines for three years. For the past four years, David has been involved in studying community concepts.
